JNIS believes in promoting a variety of qualities that help students develop individual identity in a global scenario. There is a plethora of opportunities that enable students to take up leadership and embrace responsibility, translating into an improved and effective school atmosphere, building a positive community and making academic and co-curricular activities a joyful experience. The primary, secondary and senior council is an elected body of student representatives leading students as well acting as a liaison between teachers and students whenever needed. Through the planning and execution of various activities, these students are also provided a hands-on training in leadership, mentoring and conflict resolution. In addition, the responsibility of choosing one's own leader also provides the students with a first step towards understanding the democratic process and subsequently the responsibilities of a citizen within a nation.
