Kutch; the land of bandhani, or tie and dye as we call it, is renowned for its eminent handicrafts and vibrant culture. Tie and dye being so significant in Kutch's diverse lifestyle that it invariably made its way into our annual and eminent CAS Project- 'SVAYAM'. Our prime intent was to help the women of the village become self – sufficient since bandhani can become an indigenous activity in their life.
The women understood the basics and easily knew the crux of it. They grasped the art in a jiffy and explored through the miscellaneous dyes to prove their prolific skill. It came to such an extent, that a few of the women chose to continue the tie and dye activity over everything, which allowed us to make copious dupattas and simultaneously get to know about their customs better.
It was quite fantastic because not only did we end up with exquisite dupattas and scarves, which sold out as quickly at the 'Anand Mela', as they were made, but we also had some sensational memories to cherish. Merely being amongst those women was an absolute incredible experience.
